Easter Island - the Giants of the Pacific

"In the middle of no-where"… there it is, stuck in the center of the Pacific: Easter Island or "Rapa Nui" as the locals call it. This isle is probably one of the most remote and isolated places in the world, more than 4000 km away from the closest city (Santiago de Chile), constantly blown by hard winds and violent waves.

To get there, another red-eye flight (two stopovers and 15 hours of flight), so to recover, we slept 16 hours in a row… what started at a late afternoon nap finished as more than a full night, skipping dinner!

The next three days were spent exploring the island in our little Susuki Jimmy 4x4. Full traction was again necessary as only two roads on the island were paved, the others were bumpy winding trails going up-and-down volcanic cliffs!

We really had an exciting time trying to find the archeological sites of the lost Pasquan civilization along the wild coastline… what a satisfaction when you finally found the impressive giant heads used to venerate their elders, but so many questions still remained unanswered... It really felt like an episode of the Italian "Voyager" TV show, mixing history, mystery and sometimes even paranormal theories!
