Robinson Crusoe in Gili Meno

We took the "fastest boat" to get to the Gili Islands from Bali (all of the boat companies advertise themselves as the "fastest", so who knows if we took the best one). The Lonely Planet strongly recommended to take the 8-hour ferry instead of the small fast-boats for safety reasons, but we really didn't feel like spending two full days on a boat for only three days in the islands, so we took the risk! After a very frightening two hours of roller-coaster on the Indian Ocean in a boat cramped with both tourists and locals, we finally made it to Gili Meno…

Gili Meno is the most quite of the three Gili Islands, and we can testify!!! We really felt like Robinson Crusoe… the people we saw in a day could be counted on a single hand! As accommodation, we had a very basic "shack" and a beach gazebo just a few meters away from beautiful crystalline water.  For transportation, everything was by foot, fishermen's boats or horse (no cars or roads on the island of course). And for activities, really not much else than strolling on the beach, snorkeling (we saw lots of turtles, amazing corals, but unfortunately also some jellyfishes), playing cards, watching the sun set, reading, and…relaxing!

As you see, this time, there is really not a lot to say apart from the fact that it was just pure beach pleasure!

To finish, we were the witness of a real absurd conversation on the boat back to Bali: as the sea was starting to get rough, an Englishman asked the French girl sitting next to him: "are you sea-sick?" the French girl answered with a lot of conviction (and a very strong French accent): "No… No… just snorkeling!"
