Upon the advice of Manuela and Carlos, (c.f. our post on Bora Bora) we decided to stay at what will likely be the most special experience of our honeymoon: the Prana Veda Sanctuary (three hours of beautiful driving away from Denpasar). There, we found the real Bali… the Bali you dream of: peace & serenity, friendly people and natural beauty!
This gorgeous guesthouse by the sea only opened recently, but is a real gem! It is the life-long dream of a German yoga teacher who has built the perfect place to relax, discover the Balinese culture and do some yoga/massages! The zen gardens, the infinity pool, and Buddhas around the property are beautiful, and the house, completely made out of tropical wood, is extremely well decorated. This amazing place only has four rooms, so we felt very lucky to be able to stay in one of the best ones, with a beautiful private terrace overlooking the ocean.
During the four days we spent there, we started off each day with two hours of Yoga (way to early: starting at seven!), had a nice breakfast (fruits and pancakes), then did a bit of snorkeling/swimming before a light lunch. In the afternoon, we had some massages (including one time with a Balinese flower bath) and did a bit more swimming… to finish off, we were spoilt for dinner with some of the best Indonesian food we ever had (including one romantic candlelight dinner with more lobster)!
One day, we went for a little hike to one of the nearby waterfalls. It was really an amazing place: we were all alone, immersed in the jungle with the powerful cascade coming down (there was much more water than in Kakadu, making Alessia think we could have come directly to Bali and skipped that part of Australia)! Although the pictures are not there to prove it, Alessia also went in the waterfall for a full body scrub… After that, we went to visit some plantations (coffee, mangos, papaya and other tropical fruits/vegetables) and were treated by the farmers with a Tapioca and Coconut dish – it wasn't very tasty and hygiene was definitely not ideal, but we really couldn't refuse (nobody was sick afterwards)!
